Challenges
There are several challenges related to building trusting and inclusive relationships. Think about processes that act as challenges to your collaboration. Here are some examples.
Challenges
- Lack of trust and/or respect,
- Lack of collaborative working styles,
- Lack of inclusiveness.
Lack of trust and/or respect
Lack of trust and/or respect with collaborative partners can directly inhibit collaboration.
Collaborative working styles of individuals can make or break a collaboration.
A lack of collaborative working styles demonstrated by a willingness to work together and a lack of inclusiveness in the relationship can really get in the way. Keep in mind that when staff members leave and new ones join, they will need to be updated on the collaboration and trust will need to be built again.
“New staff members over the last three, four years were so involved in collaboration. You have to continue to keep bringing the focus back and educating and promoting because people over time leave and you get new staff members. There has to be process for maintaining the collaboration, supporting, and nurturing it.”
Lack of stable team membership
This can be a challenge to building and maintaining trusting and inclusive relationships as the new staff may not know or trust their partners.
Often lack of trusting and inclusive relationships can occur in settings where there is ineffective communication.
