The factor – Effective Communication – involves two elements:

  • Exchange of information,
  • Facilitated, engaged dialogue.

At an interpersonal level effective communication is essential for collaborations between public health and primary care practitioners.

Information exchange involves the process of effective sharing of information, ideas, and data.  Information exchange can involve sharing information about patients or clients, as well as, other information relevant to programs and services, such as educational and training activities. 

Facilitated engaged dialogue requires having someone with facilitation skills present to support the group in achieving team goals and to help deal with communication challenges.
