A Practical Approach
This toolkit can be used by individuals or with teams. We encourage a pragmatic approach. The modules can be reviewed one at a time; for example, during team meetings to prompt team collaborative discussions. The ‘Test Yourself’ sections as well as ‘Case Examples’ sections can also help stimulate dialogue.

These modules will be valuable regardless of one’s background or role in the health care system.

Something for Everyone
The core section or nature of collaboration module will be of interest to all users. Front line practitioners may find that the intrapersonal and interpersonal modules are more relevant for them, whereas managers may find the organizational module will be of greater interest. Policy makers may find it most helpful to review the systemic module. Managers who are responsible for program and service evaluation may find the research and evaluation module most helpful.

In each module, there are case examples where roles of various players are highlighted. Tips are highlighted for various players throughout the toolkit. Building public health and primary care collaboration is a very complex task. A comprehensive review to understand how each layer impacts the other will provide a foundation to build a deeper understanding of how to make collaborations work.
