Lessons Learned
- Role clarity is about understanding and agreeing about roles of the people in the collaboration and their mandates;
- However, role clarity can be challenged when roles need to change during busy times, such as flu season; therefore, it is important to be flexible and adaptable with roles during these times;
- Research shows that role clarity is the most frequently noted interpersonal factor that influences collaboration;
- Role clarity needs to be communicated early, clearly, and on an ongoing basis;
- Don’t assume that people in the other sector understand your role … even if you have been working closely for many years;
- It’s important to address challenges. For example correcting misperceptions and addressing feelings of being unappreciated and misunderstood.
